Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Vote early and often

In a thread started earlier today, folks voiced their opinions about Rhino's upcoming From the Vault 3 and whether the releases should be new material or what the criteria should be.

So: if you ran the zoo, what would be you top 5 picks and why?

Me, I'd love more from Europe '72. I don't care that it's out or that I have it; there are a few of the shows that are only audience and a few sbds are are terrible or partial, so they could release either new stuff or classics.

I'd also love to see the shows from the Ark in April 1969 released in all their glory (if they are in the Vault in better condition).

Next up, 11-07-71 which is available as a flattish FM recording. Or a box from the Felt Forum the next month.

2-14-68 comes to mind. Yes, it's out there, but is the master cleaner?

The Fillmore East shows from September 1970 or May 15 1970.
Yep, available for download, and the former may not be in the Vault per se.

Finally; Houston Texas, 11-19-72, available as less than great sbd. Or a box from that series of Texas Trippin' shows.

Obviously, I'm someone who likes boxes that contain the highlights of runs as much as complete shows.

But, hey, that's just me.

And I know I cut it off in 1972.

At least I included one non-Pig show!

i find it's well worth it if you're willing to spend just a little more on the MUSH! NANOOK! MUSH!' service. we've come along way from the 'musk ox express' EH. ; )

btw mr permafrost, i burned a young music student (mohawk college in hamilton) a copy of lenny breau 6/14/83, and boy did he get it! merci!

sorry Ian, didn't occur to me to check for a current address...no sign of a return, i'll get your new addy and will redirect if it does show...any chance it was scooped? if so, would be more than happy to reburn cause i know you will enjoy...still in the process of putting off replacement of my defective burner

Djangoesque is cool, Grappelligogs even better!!! now there's a class act!!!

i know, why don't i send you an e-mail about all this, Mark Helias and recording tubas etc???

never thought of that...

not sure on how to begin, mornin' or 'nite? how's about howdy...

there is no way it was scooped. i'm sure the music will land back on your slice of tundra, safe and sound, and all the more worldy from the travel - it's just a matter of when... and when it does, please let me know and i'll shoot you my addy, or better yet... you could just copy it from the djangoesque parcel that i'll toss together this weekend. hey now! 21 days and your forum handle becomes a reality. nice : )

"mornin' or 'nite?"...just one long twilight between each long day zone

sounds like a plan...that footman is gonna be right pissed!

btw, the quality of sound you managed on your recordings of the Helias and Zankl shows is nothing short of spectacular...have you submitted a job application to Rhino? could be the stuff dreams are made of

and thanks for your generous offer of more...looking forward to another blast from the current millennia!

another 21 days and my psyche cycle (psycho-cycle) will be full blown manic...a curious mixture of fear and fascination brought on by ongoing sleep deprivation...speaking of which, time to wind down while i can, before things wind up again

the very first show i checked out when i stumbled upon the LMA candystore was 11-13-72 soldiers and sailors memorial hall, kansas city, kansas. i had a cassette copy forever and had always blamed the poor quality on what i had assumed was generational loss. turns out it’s a bear recording and there is simply NO board available. what i wouldn’t give to hear THAT dark star tidied up! scariest tiger ever!

brother,

from what i’ve gathered tonight you’ve seen better days. please! trust me, these to shall pass. whatever’s caught in your paw, do remember there are plenty of mice around these parts that owe you, and care about you. together, we’ll help pull that thorn out.

and seeing as you asked... in a word - i’m happy. as i mentioned to a beloved regular (off forum) – i am very much in bliss with someone new. i share this with you now only to instill hope and prove that as long as you keep movin' that silver lining is waiting around the next corner.

peace - fuck the whatever ; )

Quickly, off the top of my head:

The 2-14-68 that circulates is good, they should have something decent back there. I would mix that with a few tunes from 12-29-68 (Crypt?).

2-23-74 has about 10 great tunes. Pristine quality. Got another 74?

6-9-77, they nail just about everything.

10-25-79, great 2nd set.

10-9-89, obviously.

edit: I would also include The Eleven from 12-29-68
